1. FC Kaiserslautern, founded in 1900 and based in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, is one of German football's most romanticised clubs. The club plays at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion, named after their greatest legend, with a capacity of 49,327. Die Roten Teufel (The Red Devils) have won four Bundesliga titles (1951, 1953, 1991, 1998), with the 1997-98 championship being the most extraordinary — achieved as a freshly promoted side, an unprecedented feat in Bundesliga history. They also won the DFB-Pokal in 1990 and 1996. After financial difficulties led to relegations into the third and even fourth tier, Kaiserslautern fought back, returning to the 2.
