Azerbaijan
The Azerbaijan national football team is governed by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), established in 1992 following independence. The team competes in UEFA European Championship and FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns, representing a nation that has grown its footballing infrastructure significantly in recent decades. Azerbaijan has hosted major UEFA events and invested in modern stadiums, including the Baku Olympic Stadium, which hosted UEFA Europa League and UEFA European Championship matches. Notable players include Ramil Sheydayev and Mahir Emreli, who have performed in European leagues. The squad blends domestic talent from the Azerbaijan Premier League with overseas-based players. While not yet a dominant force in European football, Azerbaijan has shown improved organisation and competitiveness in recent qualifying cycles.
