Panathinaikos FC, founded in 1908 in Athens, Greece, is one of the country's most successful and globally recognised football clubs. The club plays at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium (Leoforos), with a capacity of 16,620. Panathinaikos have won 20 Greek Super League titles and have been regular participants in European competition. Their crowning European glory came in 1971, when they reached the UEFA European Cup Final under Hungarian coach Puskas, losing 2-0 to Ajax. The Greens, as they are known, have featured legendary players such as Mimis Domazos and more recently Marcus Berg and Djibril Cissé. Panathinaikos competed in the UEFA Champions League group stages multiple times during the 1990s and 2000s. Currently competing in Champions League qualifying, the club remains one of Greek football's most powerful and passionately supported institutions.
