Switzerland
The Switzerland national football team, governed by the Swiss Football Association (ASF/SFV) and nicknamed the Nati, has established itself as one of Europe's most consistent and underrated sides. Switzerland co-hosted the 1954 FIFA World Cup and has qualified for numerous subsequent World Cup finals and European Championships. Their best recent performances include reaching the UEFA Euro 2020 quarter-finals (defeating world champions France on penalties) and consecutive FIFA World Cup round-of-sixteen appearances. Home matches are played at various Swiss stadiums including Letzigrund in Zurich and Wankdorf in Bern. Legendary players include Stephane Chapuisat, Alexander Frei, and goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Current stars include Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Manuel Akanji. Switzerland's multi-cultural squad — reflecting the country's four language regions and immigrant communities — gives it remarkable depth and tactical versatility under coach Murat Yakin.
