Latvia
The Latvia national football team, governed by the Latvian Football Federation, has competed in FIFA and UEFA competitions since regaining independence in 1991. Based in Riga, Latvia's most memorable achievement came at UEFA Euro 2004, their only major tournament appearance, where they reached the group stage. The team typically competes in the Nations League and World Cup qualifiers in the lower UEFA divisions. Latvia has produced talented players such as Māris Verpakovskis, the country's all-time top scorer, and goalkeeper Andris Vaņins. The side plays its home matches at Skonto Stadium and Daugavas Stadions. In recent years Latvia has shown steady improvement in Nations League campaigns, earning promotions through the lower leagues, reflecting gradual development of domestic football infrastructure.
