Remo vs Botafogo

Remo beat Botafogo 2-1 at the Mangueirão in Belém, and the home side needed it. It was their first league win since 26 July, ending a winless run of more than a dozen games, and it came against a visiting side that had most of the ball. Jajá put Remo ahead after seven minutes, punishing a mistake by Domingos Andrade when a cross was cleared badly. Early in the second half Leonel Picco made it 2-0 with a first-time finish after a pass from Jajá, whose ninth league goal of the season that was. Edenilson pulled one back for Botafogo in the 37th minute, heading in from a corner. Arthur Cabral had earlier hit the crossbar, and Junior Santos headed over late on. No red cards or penalties were reported. Remo move to 29 points, still second from bottom, six points behind Internacional, the first team outside the relegation zone. It was also the first positive result for coach Thiago Carpini. Botafogo have lost two in a row and stay on 39 points. Tite has won one of his five games in charge. Botafogo host Atlético-MG on 4 November, and Remo travel to Palmeiras the next day.
