Botafogo
Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas was formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1942 through the merger of Club de Regatas Botafogo, founded in 1894, and Botafogo Football Club, established in 1904. Known as Estrela Solitária (Lone Star) and O Glorioso, they wear black and white and play at the Estádio Nilton Santos. Botafogo are among Brazil's most storied clubs, winning the Campeonato Brasileiro in 1968, 1995, and 2024, as well as the Copa Libertadores in 2024 — their first continental crown. They also won the Copa CONMEBOL in 1993 and hold the Brazilian record for the biggest league victory (24–0 in 1909). The club produced legendary players including Garrincha, Nilton Santos, and Didi. In 2022, American businessman John Textor acquired the club, ushering in a new era of international investment.
