The Liberia national football team, known as the Lone Star, is governed by the Football Federation of Liberia and has been a FIFA member since 1962. Liberia's football is most famously associated with George Weah, the 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year and AC Milan legend, who later became the country's President. Despite Weah's individual brilliance, Liberia never qualified for a FIFA World Cup. The team competes in AFCON qualifying and FIFA World Cup qualifiers within the CAF zone. Liberia has struggled with instability due to civil conflicts in the 1990s, which disrupted football development. In recent years, with a more stable environment, the national team has worked to rebuild under dedicated coaching, drawing from domestic league players and the diaspora, aiming to recapture the spirit of the Weah era.
