The Equatorial Guinea national football team, known as the Nzalang Nacional (National Lightning), is governed by the Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol (FEGUIFUT) and competes within the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The team achieved its most remarkable feat by reaching the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals in 2012 as co-hosts and again as hosts in 2015, finishing fourth. Equatorial Guinea has benefited from FIFA eligibility rules that allowed them to field several Brazilian-born players. Home matches are played at Estadio de Malabo. The team has twice qualified for AFCON as a host nation and twice as an independent qualifier, demonstrating progress. While still developing footballing infrastructure, Equatorial Guinea continues to participate in World Cup qualifiers and AFCON campaigns, growing their continental profile.
