Boca Juniors
Club Atlético Boca Juniors, founded on April 3, 1905, in the working-class La Boca neighbourhood of Buenos Aires by sons of Genoese immigrants, plays at La Bombonera — the iconic 49,000-capacity Estadio Alberto J. Armando — an arena widely considered one of the most intense and atmospheric in world football. The club is Argentina's most trophy-laden side with 35 Primera División titles and six Copa Libertadores (1977, 1978, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007), with three continental wins in five seasons under Carlos Bianchi representing one of football's most impressive sustained runs of excellence. Diego Maradona and Juan Román Riquelme — the visionary playmaker and later club president — are the defining icons of Boca's identity. Their Superclásico rivalry with River Plate is one of the greatest sporting rivalries on earth, carrying the full weight of Buenos Aires' cultural and social identity.
