Match Report

Boca win at Independiente through a late header to lead the table

Boca Juniors won 1-0 away at Independiente in round 14 of the Clausura. The game was heading for a goalless draw until Facundo Herrera headed in a corner with three minutes left. The goal came in the 87th minute at the Libertadores de América. Sebastián Villa, on as a substitute, swung in the corner, and Herrera rose at the near post ahead of Arrayago. Goalkeeper Santiago Mele could not hold the ball and it ended up in the net. It was the centre-back's first goal in the Primera División. Before that, both keepers had been busy. Álvaro Montero saved from Chimy Ávila and then denied Iván Morales late on, while Mele stopped a Merentiel effort. Montiel put the rebound over the bar after one of Montero's saves. Nobody was sent off, but Iván Marcone picked up his fifth yellow and will miss the next game against Defensa y Justicia. The win takes Boca Juniors to 57 points, one clear of Rosario Central at the top of the annual table. Independiente stay on 19 points, eighth in their group and in the last playoff place.
