Club Nacional de Football, established on May 14, 1899, in Montevideo as the first football club exclusively for locally born Uruguayan players, plays at the Estadio Gran Parque Central — one of the oldest functioning stadiums in the world, opened in 1900 and a host venue for the inaugural 1930 FIFA World Cup. The most decorated club in Uruguayan football history with 49 Primera División titles, Nacional have also won the Copa Libertadores three times (1971, 1980, 1988) and the Intercontinental Cup twice, defeating Nottingham Forest in 1980. Legendary players include Atilio García, the club's all-time top scorer, and members of Uruguay's famous 1950 World Cup-winning squad. The emotional 2023 homecoming of Luis Suárez underlined the deep bonds Nacional's players and fans maintain across generations.
