Match Report
Czech Republic eased past Guatemala 3-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly, two second-half substitutes proving the difference after the teams were level at the break.
Patrik Schick broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, set up by Pavel Šulc, before William Fajardo Montenegro levelled for Guatemala on 39 minutes after a goalkeeping mistake. The score stayed 1-1 at half-time, but substitute Tomáš Chorý restored the lead on 62 minutes — assisted by David Doudera — and Denis Višinský sealed it with a composed finish in the 79th. Marcelo Hernandez was cautioned late on as Guatemala's frustrations showed.
The victory gives Czech Republic a timely confidence boost ahead of their World Cup opener against South Korea on June 11. Guatemala will take some encouragement from matching their opponents in the first half, even if the second proved a step too far.
