The Guatemala national football team, known as the Chapines, represents Guatemala in international football under the Federación Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala, affiliated with CONCACAF and FIFA since 1946. Guatemala is one of Central America's most football-passionate nations, though they have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup. The team competes regularly in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, reaching the quarter-finals on several occasions. Their most successful period came in the 1960s and 1970s when they were considered Central America's strongest side. Notable achievements include winning the UNCAF Nations Cup and consistently qualifying for the Gold Cup. Guatemala has produced players who competed in Major League Soccer and European leagues. The team plays home matches at the Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City, the country's largest football venue.
