Cruz Azul survived a wild Clásico Joven, edging Club América 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Estadio Banorte. A commanding 3-0 halftime lead nearly slipped away as América stormed back with two goals in the final two minutes.
Erik Lira opened the scoring in the 19th minute, José Paradela doubled it in the 35th, and Jesús Orozco made it 3-0 just before the break. Goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota kept América in it by saving Nicolás Ibáñez's 40th-minute penalty. Brian Rodríguez pulled one back in the 51st, but Gabriel Fernández restored the three-goal edge in the 72nd. Late strikes from Óscar Perea (89') and Miguel Borja (90') set up a nervy finish through six added minutes.
The win gave Joel Huiqui a winning start as Cruz Azul manager in the rivalry and lifted the club to 15 points. For América, it ended their unbeaten run and cost them top spot in the Apertura 2026 table.
