Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at a sold-out Signal Iduna Park, with all four goals arriving inside the first half. The 81,365 fans packed in for Dortmund's season-opening event were treated to end-to-end football early on, before both sides tightened up defensively after the break. Roma struck first through Paulo Dybala, who curled home a low left-footed finish from a tight angle in the 4th minute, and Bryan Cristante doubled the lead five minutes later with a powerful header into the top corner. Dortmund hit back quickly, as Julian Ryerson pulled one back in the 12th minute before Serhou Guirassy leveled things up in the 28th with a close-range finish. Devyne Rensch picked up a yellow card for dangerous play, and second-half substitute Konstantinos Karetsas came close to a winner, rattling the crossbar in the 48th minute. For Dortmund, this was the final tune-up before the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Bayern Munich, and coach Niko Kovač will take encouragement from the response after conceding twice early. Roma, still searching for form following a heavy loss to Brighton, showed sharpness in front of goal but again couldn't hold onto a lead.
