Benin vs Liberia
Match Report
Steve Mounié left it late to snatch all the spoils for Benin, firing home the only goal in a hard-fought 1-0 friendly win over Liberia at the General Mathieu Kérékou Friendship Stadium.
After a goalless first half that saw chances go begging at both ends, it was Mounié who finally broke the deadlock deep in the second half. The striker latched onto a through ball, surged into the box on the right, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted a composed low finish across goal into the net.
Liberia battled gamely but lacked the cutting edge to trouble the hosts, rarely testing goalkeeper Marcelo Dandjinou when it mattered most.
A tidy workout for Benin ahead of bigger tests to come, though Liberia will take heart from a disciplined showing that only a moment of individual brilliance could undo.
