Santos Laguna produced a gutsy fightback to salvage a 1-1 draw against Club America in Matchday 13 of the Liga MX Clausura at the TSM Corona Stadium on Saturday night. Down to ten men and trailing, the hosts refused to fold — and were rewarded with one of the gutsiest points of their season.
Santos were reduced to ten men in the 79th minute when Kevin Picón was shown a straight red following a VAR review. America pounced almost immediately, with Alexis Gutiérrez firing a thunderous strike from inside the box on 80 minutes to put the visitors ahead. But the lead lasted just three minutes — Cristián Dájome finished off a rapid counterattack in the 83rd to haul Santos level.
The result leaves Club America on 18 points and hovering around the playoff places, while Santos Laguna remain rooted to the bottom of the table. For the hosts, though, a point earned in these circumstances will feel like a win.
