Genoa hold on at Lecce after a disallowed late first-half goal
Genoa won 2-1 at Lecce on matchday 10, building a two-goal lead inside half an hour and then surviving a VAR scare before the break.
Milutin Osmajic put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute. He finished from the middle of the box after Lecce gave the ball away in their own build-up. Junior Messias made it 2-0 in the 28th, rounding the keeper after a through ball from Stephan El Shaarawy.
Youssef Maleh pulled one back in the 39th (one source has it a minute later). His left-footed free kick took a deflection off Frendrup and beat Bijlow. In first-half stoppage time Nikola Stulic had a goal ruled out after a VAR check showed the ball hit his arm just before it went in. El Shaarawy hit the far post in the second half, and Fatah appealed for a Lecce penalty late on, but the contact was outside the box.
Genoa had not taken a point away from home all season before this and moved up to 11th, with 16 points. Lecce stay on 9 points, in a relegation fight after losing heavily at Frosinone the week before.
