Sporting CP ran out convincing 4-1 winners away at Rio Ave, a result shaped as much by red cards as by quality on the pitch.
Diogo Bezerra gave the hosts an early lead in the 12th minute, but Sporting levelled through a Luis Javier Suárez penalty on 35 minutes before Gustavo Mancha's own goal two minutes before the break flipped the scoreboard. Felicíssimo Petrasso was dismissed for a second yellow on 52 minutes, and Francisco Trincão made it 3-1 on 66. Ryan saw red on 85 minutes before Geovany Quenda sealed the rout in stoppage time.
The victory keeps Sporting CP's bid for second place — and direct Champions League football — firmly on track. For a Rio Ave side already safe from relegation, two dismissals and a heavy defeat make for a sobering end to a tough season.
