RC Lens vs Sporting CP

Lens dominated for long stretches at Stade Bollaert-Delelis but had nothing to show for it, falling 0-2 to a ruthless Sporting CP in this Champions League clash. The standout moment came early when Luis Suárez ghosted across his marker to turn home a low cross from Irankunda in the 22nd minute, silencing the home crowd before they'd really got going. Issa Doumbia doubled the damage in the 74th minute, slotting home after a perfectly weighted through ball from Silas Andersen. Lens had chances of their own, with Ivanovic rattling the crossbar and late yellow cards shown to Michael Cuisance and Florian Thauvin as frustration grew, the latter firing narrowly wide in a late push for a way back. The result sends Sporting CP top of the league phase with a perfect six points from two matches, while Lens stay on three points from three outings, left to rue their wastefulness in front of goal despite controlling large parts of the game.
