AVS Futebol SAD vs Sporting CP

A VAR-packed evening at Vila das Aves ended in stalemate as relegated AFS held Sporting CP to a 1-1 draw. Three posts struck between the sides and a flurry of penalty appeals made this a far livelier affair than the standings implied. Rafael Nel broke the deadlock on 47', tucking home after Vagiannidis cut in from the right and rolled a low cross across the box. AFS levelled through a Pedro Lima penalty on 66'. Sporting then hit the woodwork twice more — Pedro Gonçalves rattled the post at 49' and Geny Catamo did the same at 82' — before Óscar Perea came within inches of a dramatic late winner for the hosts deep in stoppage time. For AFS, already relegated before kick-off, this was a proud farewell moment in the top flight. For Sporting CP, now ten points behind leaders Porto in third place, failing to see off a relegated side is a frustrating footnote to a difficult title campaign.
