Malta
The Malta national football team, nicknamed the Maltese Falcons, is governed by the Malta Football Association, founded in 1900, making it one of the oldest football associations outside Britain. Competing in UEFA European Championship qualifiers and FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Malta has historically been a developing football nation facing stronger European opposition. The team plays home matches at the Ta' Qali National Stadium in Attard. While major tournament qualification has remained elusive, Malta has produced notable players such as Michael Mifsud, who scored prolifically for the national team and played in the English Premier League with Coventry City. In recent years, Malta has shown improvement in Nations League competition, regularly competing in League D and occasionally battling for promotion to higher tiers.
