Libya
The Libya national football team, governed by the Libyan Football Federation, has competed under FIFA since 1963 and under CAF in African football. Known as the Mediterranean Knights, Libya's greatest achievement was winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982 as host nation, defeating Ghana in the final. They also appeared at the 1982 AFCON as host and qualified for the 1982 and 2012 AFCON editions. The team plays home matches at Tripoli International Stadium. Civil unrest following 2011 significantly disrupted football infrastructure, but the national team has continued competing in World Cup qualifiers and AFCON qualifications. Notable players include Tarik El Taib and Nader Jahed. Libya remains one of Africa's historically significant football nations, working to restore its standing through youth development and stable league competition.
