Watford

Watford Football Club, founded in 1881 as Watford Rovers and playing at the 22,200-capacity Vicarage Road in Hertfordshire since 1922 — featuring the Elton John Stand, named after the club's most famous chairman — experienced their golden era under Graham Taylor, who achieved four promotions from the Fourth Division to the First Division in just six seasons from 1977. The club finished runners-up in the First Division in 1982-83 and reached the 1984 FA Cup final, with striker Luther Blissett and winger John Barnes the star performers of a direct, effective style. They reached the FA Cup final again in 2019, losing 6-0 to Manchester City. Under the Pozzo family's ownership — which also controls Udinese — Watford have used an interconnected scouting network to compete above their means. Currently in the Championship, the club's yellow and black colours and Hornets identity make them one of English football's most recognisable smaller clubs.
