Burundi
The Burundi national football team, known as the Swallows, was founded in 1948 and is governed by the Fédération de Football du Burundi, affiliated with FIFA and CAF. Based in Bujumbura, the team competes in FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations. Burundi achieved their most historic milestone in 2019 when they qualified for their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt, a landmark moment for the nation. The squad draws from local talent and diaspora-based players competing across African leagues. Notable players include striker Saido Berahino, who had an international career in Europe. The team trains at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium and continues building a competitive programme under the guidance of the national football federation.
