The Paraguay national football team, known as La Albirroja, is governed by the Asociacion Paraguaya de Futbol and competes in CONMEBOL. Paraguay has a strong football tradition, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup nine times. Their best World Cup result came in 2010 in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals. Paraguay also won the Copa America twice, in 1953 and 1979. Legendary players include Jose Luis Chilavert, the legendary goalkeeper-striker, Roque Santa Cruz, and Salvador Cabanas. Paraguay plays home matches at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asuncion, known for its intimidating atmosphere.
