AFC Ajax, founded in Amsterdam on March 18, 1900, and playing at the 54,990-capacity Johan Cruyff Arena since 1996, is one of the most influential clubs in football history, famed for developing the 'Total Football' philosophy under coach Rinus Michels and Johan Cruyff in the late 1960s. The club won three consecutive European Cups from 1971 to 1973 and a fourth Champions League title in 1995, and has won the Eredivisie a record 36 times and the KNVB Cup 21 times. Ajax's De Toekomst academy has produced an unmatched lineage of world-class players including Dennis Bergkamp, Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Matthijs de Ligt, and Frenkie de Jong. Their playing philosophy and talent development system remain among the most admired and studied in world football.
