AC Milan, founded on December 16, 1899, by English expatriate Herbert Kilpin and playing at the iconic San Siro in Milan — a 75,000-capacity cathedral of football shared with Inter — has won 19 Serie A titles, 5 Coppa Italia trophies, and a record seven UEFA Champions League crowns, second only to Real Madrid. Manager Arrigo Sacchi's revolutionary 1989-91 sides, featuring the Dutch trinity of Gullit, Van Basten, and Rijkaard with arguably the finest defence in football history, changed the global game forever. Carlo Ancelotti delivered further Champions League titles in 2003 and 2007. In 2022, Milan ended an 11-year Scudetto drought under Stefano Pioli, and under American ownership (RedBird Capital since 2022) the club continues to rebuild with its global fanbase of over 500 million supporters.
