Newell's Old Boys vs Platense

Newell's Old Boys thought they had snatched a vital home win, but Augusto Lotti's late equaliser earned Platense a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa on Wednesday night. Facundo Guch gave the hosts the lead in the 23rd minute — just ten minutes after picking up a yellow card — as the struggling Rosario side looked set to claim their first win of the season. Platense pushed hard after the break and were rewarded when Lotti struck in the 83rd minute to rescue a point. It was a tetchy affair throughout, with six yellow cards dished out — four of them to Newell's players. The draw does little for Newell's Old Boys, who remain anchored to the bottom of the Apertura table without a single victory this campaign. Platense, meanwhile, stay comfortably in the top five with another solid away result.
