Match Report
Real Salt Lake snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory over Austin FC at America First Field, thanks to a stunning debut goal from Stijn Spierings in the 88th minute. The Dutch midfielder, signed from Brøndby IF, ran onto a pass from Justen Glad and unleashed a first-time strike from well outside the box to send the home crowd wild.
Austin had taken a deserved lead through Jon Bell on 18 minutes, but the advantage lasted just six minutes. Noel Caliskan fired a ball across the box that Austin defender Oleksandr Svatok turned into his own net to make it 1-1.
The hosts dominated possession and peppered Brad Stuver with 24 shots, but the Austin goalkeeper kept his side level with seven saves — until Spierings found the one shot he couldn't stop.
The win extends Real Salt Lake's streak to three straight and lifts them to 3-1-0 on the season. Austin FC slip to 1-2-1 and have plenty of work ahead to climb the Western Conference table.
