Peñarol needed a stoppage-time strike to see off a stubborn Boston River at the Estadio Centenario, edging the Clausura clash 2-1 in dramatic fashion. What looked like a comfortable early lead turned into a nervy finish once the visitors found their footing after the break.
Lucas Ferreira opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an acrobatic overhead kick, finishing off a corner delivered by Leonel Jaime. Boston River responded early in the second half through Francisco Bonfiglio in the 50th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Fredy Martínez to level things up. The game stayed tense until Abel Hernández rose to head home the winner in the second minute of stoppage time. There was also a scare for Peñarol, as Leonel Jaime went off injured and visibly upset late on.
