Match Preview
There's still plenty on the line as Hearts host Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie, even though the Portuguese side already holds a commanding 6-1 lead from Lisbon. Both clubs are also just starting their domestic seasons — Hearts lost their Scottish Premiership opener to Aberdeen, while Benfica begin their Primeira Liga campaign days later.
Form heavily favours the visitors. Benfica are unbeaten at home since February under new boss Marco Silva and thrashed St Gallen 6-2 on aggregate, with Vangelis Pavlidis scoring four in that tie alone; new signings Georgiy Sudakov and Jakub Kaminski add further firepower. Hearts, meanwhile, crashed out of Champions League qualifying to Sturm Graz and are still seeking a first win under Wouter Vrancken, though Claudio Braga has stood out defensively and Tomás Renaud grabbed their consolation in Lisbon. This is the clubs' first-ever competitive meeting.
It's a near-impossible mountain to climb. Our prediction: 1-3
