Match Report

Nijmegen needed extra time to get past Olympiacos Piraeus, but the Goffertstadion crowd got the drama they came for as the Dutch side completed a second-half comeback to book their spot in the next Champions League qualifying round. A cagey scoreless first half gave way to a wild finish. Ayoub El Kaabi struck straight after the break to put the Greek side ahead in the 46th minute, but Nijmegen hit back through Bryan Linssen in the 70th. The tie turned decisively when Konstantinos Fortounis saw his yellow card upgraded to red by VAR around the 79th minute, leaving Olympiacos to see out the rest of the match a man down. A late VAR review also chalked off a Sierhuis goal for offside, before Emre Mor finally won it for the hosts in the 95th minute. The win sends Nijmegen through on aggregate after the goalless first leg, keeping their Champions League ambitions alive, while Olympiacos exit the competition and must now regroup for a route into Europe elsewhere.
