Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt served up an opening-day thriller at the Alten Försterei, with the hosts twice clawing back from behind before snatching a stoppage-time equalizer to share the points 3-3. It was the kind of chaotic, momentum-swinging affair that had the sold-out crowd on its feet from start to finish. Emmanuel Latte Lath marked his debut with a third-minute header to give Union an early lead, but Frankfurt's Younes Ebnoutalib stunned the hosts with two goals in the space of nine seconds, on 10 and 11 minutes, to flip the score. He completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute to put the visitors 3-1 up and seemingly in control. Union refused to fold, though, as Leopold Querfeld pulled one back in the 79th minute before Tim Skarke struck deep into stoppage time to complete the comeback. Eight yellow cards were shown, but no dismissals or penalties. For Union Berlin, the late fightback offers real encouragement despite defensive lapses that let Ebnoutalib run riot. For Eintracht Frankfurt, squandering a two-goal cushion will sting, even as Ebnoutalib's individual brilliance offers a huge positive to build on.
