Athletic Club vs Deportivo Alavés

Athletic Club and Alavés shared a goalless draw at San Mamés, a result shaped almost entirely by a missed penalty. The hosts dominated the ball and peppered Sivera's goal all afternoon but couldn't turn control into a breakthrough. The game's turning point arrived in the 70th minute: Nico Williams won a penalty after pouncing on a loose ball in the box, but Oihan Sancet's tame spot-kick was easily saved by Antonio Sivera. Earlier chances from Robert Navarro and Mikel Jauregizar also went begging, and late on Álex Berenguer's goal-line block denied Antonio Blanco a simple tap-in on the counter. Yellow cards went to Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta and Jesús Areso, both for Athletic, but no one saw red. The draw suits Alavés more, ending a two-game losing run and keeping them sixth on 10 points, within touching distance of Europe. Athletic stay tenth on 7 points, their unbeaten run now at four games but their finishing still a concern at home.
