Real Madrid needed a stoppage-time winner from substitute Carlos Espí to beat Elche 3-2, after the hosts twice fought back from two goals down to level the game in the closing stages.
Matías Dituro's own goal put Real Madrid ahead in the 25th minute, and Kylian Mbappé doubled it in the 33rd, assisted by Yan Diomande. Elche hit back through Abiel Osorio's 71st-minute header, set up by Lucas Cepeda, then equalized at 2-2 via Fer Niño in the 83rd, assisted by Josan. Several yellow cards flew before Espí, teed up by Mbappé, struck in first-minute stoppage time to win it.
For Real Madrid, it's another three points despite a scare, keeping pace at the top of the table. For Elche, the double comeback shows fight but earns nothing in the standings, a tough way to lose after twice clawing level.
