Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth

Match Report

Newcastle produced a stirring second-half fightback at St James' Park, hauling themselves level from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth. It was the Magpies' first comeback from that far back since March 2024, and it came against a Cherries side that simply couldn't hold on to a lead. Bournemouth flew out of the blocks, with Marcus Tavernier poking home a loose ball in the 9th minute after Alex Scott's effort took a deflection. They doubled up in the 35th when Justin Kluivert's shot cannoned off the post and in off Malick Thiaw for an own goal. Harvey Barnes hit back almost immediately, curling a brilliant finish into the top corner just 37 minutes in, before substitute Jacob Ramsey swept in a scrambled equalizer in the 88th minute to spark wild celebrations. No red cards or penalties were shown. The result kept Newcastle unbeaten to start the season under new boss, while Bournemouth made unwanted history as the first Premier League side to score first in each of their opening three matches without winning a single one.
