Iberia 1999 pulled off a stunning 3-2 away win at Flora on July 8 in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round, with Bakar Kardava's 75th-minute strike snatching victory just moments after the Estonian hosts had levelled at 2-2.
The Georgian visitors hit the ground running at Tallinn's A. Le Coq Arena. Zviad Natchkebia opened the scoring on 18 minutes, and Jemali-Giorgi Jinjolava doubled the lead from the penalty spot three minutes later after a Flora foul. Vladislav Kreida pulled one back for the hosts on 28 minutes to keep them in it, but their afternoon darkened when Airon Kollo was sent off in the 63rd minute. Remarkably, Sander Alamaa levelled for the ten men on 73 minutes — only for Kardava to restore Iberia 1999's lead within two minutes.
Flora now face an uphill task in the return leg in Tbilisi, while Iberia 1999 head into the second match with a precious one-goal lead and the momentum of a gutsy away performance.
