Match Report

Borac Banja Luka and Levski Sofia played out a tense 1-1 draw in the UEFA Champions League qualifying first round at Gradski Stadion. The hosts set the tone early when Luka Juričić stepped up to convert a penalty in the 9th minute, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Juričić's spot-kick — won by Stefan Savic — looked set to be enough, but Armstrong Oko-Flex equalized for the Bulgarian side in the 55th minute, set up by Serginho. The match had plenty of edge: Nikola Serafimov was cautioned as early as the 7th minute for Levski, while Juričić picked up his own yellow in the 43rd and Sandi Ogrinec was booked for Borac shortly after the break. Everything remains open heading into the return leg in Sofia on July 15. Levski take a precious away goal back to Bulgaria, while Borac will rue their failure to protect a home advantage that looked so promising after nine minutes.
