SC Cambuur vs Excelsior Rotterdam

SC Cambuur's long-awaited return to the Eredivisie turned into a rout as Excelsior ran out comfortable 0-4 winners at the Kooi Stadion. Fielding nine debutants for their first top-flight game in three years, Cambuur were undone early and never recovered against a sharper, more clinical visiting side. The damage started in the 17th minute when a defensive mix-up from Mulders let Irakli Yegoian nip in and finish at the far post. Excelsior captain Noah Naujoks doubled the lead in the 31st minute, sliding home a low cross, before debutant David Garden headed in from a corner just before halftime to make it 0-3. Naujoks completed his brace with another headed corner in the 69th minute. Cambuur keeper Jansen kept the score respectable with a fine save to deny De Regt, and a late Garden effort was chalked off for offside after a VAR check. No cards were shown all match. For Excelsior, it was a statement start to the season, with the visitors dominating possession and chances throughout. For Cambuur, it's a harsh welcome back to the Eredivisie and plenty for new boss Johan Plat to address before facing tougher tests ahead.
