Atlas vs Tigres UANL
Match Report
Atlas survived a second-half red card and a late penalty scare to edge Tigres UANL 2-1 at Estadio Jalisco, with the home side showing real character to see out the win a man down.
Manuel Capasso got things rolling inside two minutes, heading home from a free kick to send the home crowd into an early frenzy. Tigres hit back through Juan Brunetta, who leveled things in the 21st minute with a low strike from outside the box. The game turned in the 68th minute when Juan Purata was sent off for Atlas after a VAR review, leaving the hosts to play the rest of the match with ten men. Rather than wilt, Atlas struck again through Luís Esteves in the 81st minute, and then held their nerve when Brunetta missed a late penalty that could have leveled the score.
The win is a statement for Atlas, who ground out three points despite the numerical disadvantage and a spell of second-half pressure. For Tigres, it's a frustrating result to swallow, undone by their own missed chances in a game they had opportunities to salvage.
