Match Report
Vanuatu and Fiji played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at VFF Freshwater Stadium in Port Vila on June 9, the visitors fighting back from two goals down to snatch a share of the points.
Vanuatu were in full control by the break. Jasan Thomas gifted the home side the lead with an own goal on 21 minutes, before Azariah Soromon made it 2-0 right on the stroke of half-time. Fiji refused to go quietly, with Roy Krishna pulling one back deep in first-half stoppage time to keep his side in it at 2-1.
Fiji completed the comeback in the 77th minute, leveling the score and sending the match to a frustrating draw for the hosts.
The result rounds off a busy Pacific double-header, with the sides having also met just days earlier. Vanuatu will rue the collapse after controlling large parts of the match, while Fiji's fighting spirit gives them genuine cause for optimism.
