Match Report

South Korea edged El Salvador 1-0 in a World Cup warm-up friendly in Provo, Utah, with Lee Dong-Gyeong's curling free-kick the defining moment of an otherwise tight afternoon. The left-footed strike nestled into the top-right corner, leaving goalkeeper Mario González with no chance. El Salvador had kept things level through a disciplined first half, with González repelling efforts from Hwang In-Beom and Lee Jae-Sung. Lee Dong-Gyeong finally broke the deadlock on 57 minutes. Substitute Son Heung-Min, introduced just after the hour, threatened twice more — a header clipped the crossbar and a later effort grazed the post. The result gives South Korea a confidence boost heading into their World Cup group stage opener against Czech Republic on June 11. El Salvador, absent from the tournament, continue their rebuild under coach Hernan Dario Gomez.
