IR Iran vs Gambia
Mardan Sports Complex
2026
Match Report
Iran came from behind to beat Gambia 3-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey. Three unanswered second-half goals turned a 1-0 deficit into a comfortable victory.
Gambia were well-organised early on, and Omar Colley made it count on 43 minutes, converting from close range after a corner. Iran made a triple substitution at the break, and the impact was instant: Aria Yousefi levelled on 50 minutes, Ramin Rezaeian's drive from the edge of the box made it 2-1 on 60, then Mehdi Taremi sealed it with a tidy low finish on 70.
For Iran — preparing for their seventh World Cup appearance in a Group G that includes Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand — it was an encouraging warm-up result. Gambia fought well in the first half but the second-half showing laid bare the difference in quality and experience.
