Match Report
Turkey delivered an impressive 4-0 victory over North Macedonia in Istanbul, setting themselves up nicely for the 2026 World Cup. Orkun Kökçü struck in just the second minute to open the scoring, moments after Can Uzun had already hit the woodwork.
Uzun then made it 2-0 in the 16th minute with a powerful strike from distance. Turkey continued to dominate after the break, with Deniz Gül heading home a Uzun cross on 53 minutes to extend the lead. Baris Alper Yilmaz rounded things off with a composed finish on 70 to complete the rout. The hosts were also dealt an early blow when Eren Elmali hobbled off injured in the 27th minute, replaced by Zeki Çelik.
For Turkey, this is a statement ahead of the World Cup, with the squad looking sharp and clinical. North Macedonia — absent from the tournament — will need to regroup after a tough evening in the Turkish capital.
