South Korea vs Czechia
Match Report
South Korea fought back to defeat Czech Republic 2-1 in a dramatic World Cup Group A opener in Guadalajara, with Oh Hyeon-gyu's clinical 80th-minute finish sealing a memorable comeback.
Ladislav Krejčí put Czech Republic ahead in the 58th minute, powering a header from Vladimír Coufal's precise long throw into the box. South Korea responded swiftly — Hwang In-beom equalised in the 66th minute with a composed chip after a clever pass from Lee Kang-in. Czech Republic had a header ruled out for offside, and Oh Hyeon-gyu punished them minutes later, tapping in a Hwang In-beom cross to complete the turnaround. A late Adam Hložek header was also denied off the line.
The three points lift South Korea level with Mexico — who also won on day one — at the top of Group A. Czech Republic must regroup quickly to keep their tournament hopes alive.
