Match Report
Zimbabwe claimed the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Zambia U23 in a tense final at Francistown Stadium in Botswana. A cruel own goal from Saisada Kafunti in the 88th minute was all that separated the two sides after a cagey contest.
The first half produced little in the way of clear-cut chances as both teams cancelled each other out. Zambia U23 grew into the game after the break but Humphrey Bwembya was booked on 66 minutes as tensions rose, and it was heartbreak late on when Kafunti turned the ball into his own net just two minutes from time.
The victory caps a dominant tournament for Zimbabwe, who had thrashed hosts Botswana 3-0 in the semi-finals through goals from Mongameli Tshuma, Macaulay Bonne, and Bill Antonio. For Zambia's young squad, who edged past Malawi on penalties to reach the final, it will be a painful lesson in tournament football.
