Match Report
Wales and Northern Ireland played out a 1-1 draw in a low-key friendly at Cardiff City Stadium, with both sides still licking their wounds after World Cup playoff heartbreak days earlier.
Northern Ireland took the lead through Jamie Donley, who struck in the 23rd minute to give the visitors a deserved half-time advantage. Wales had plenty of the ball but struggled to break down a disciplined defensive shape.
Sorba Thomas levelled for Wales within seconds of the restart, firing home in the 46th minute to restore parity. Neither side could find a winner despite the hosts dominating possession.
It was a forgettable affair for two nations with bigger concerns — Wales were knocked out by Bosnia-Herzegovina on penalties last week, while Northern Ireland fell 2-0 to Italy in the playoff semi-finals.
