Match Report
Standard Liège came from behind to claim a vital away victory at Westerlo, with goals from Timothée Nkada and Rafiki Saïd doing the damage on a dramatic Tuesday evening in the Pro League playoffs.
Doğucan Haspolat gave the hosts the perfect start, firing Westerlo ahead in the 12th minute. The lead lasted just six minutes — Nkada stepped up to convert a penalty in the 18th, levelling things up. Rafiki Saïd then turned the game on its head moments before the break, slotting in the decisive goal in the 41st minute. Deep into the second half, Nkada had a 77th-minute strike ruled out by VAR, a let-off that mattered little as Standard Liège held firm despite Westerlo enjoying more than 60% of possession.
The win keeps Standard Liège firmly in the hunt for European football, while Westerlo face a tougher road ahead after dropping three valuable points on home soil.
